版画工房の仕事 －岡部版画工房－

岡部徳三は1964年、自刷りの版画家ではないアーティストの自由な発想をシルクスクリーン版画にし、販売するというシステムを取り入れた版画工房を日本の草分けとして開設した。
これまで工房では、草間彌生やNam June Paikなど世界的な評価を得ている作家をはじめ、国内外で活躍する優れたアーティストとのコラボレーションにより数多くの作品を世に送り出している。
そして、シルクスクリーンという媒体を介してそれぞれのアーティストの新たな魅力を引き出すとともに作品を複数制作することにより、現代美術をより身近な存在にし、その活動を下支えする重要な役割も果たしている。
岡部は工房での制作を通し、より実践的な技術を伝承、後に続く者を牽引し続け版画制作の可能性を常に追求。後年はその実績を買われ講師として複数の大学等で長期にわたり教鞭を執るなど若手の育成にも尽力した。
2006年に岡部徳三は逝去するが、現在も「職人になれ、職人としての自覚を持つように」という精神は受け継がれ、工房での版画制作は続いている。
工房に集う者は、美術家、映像作家、音楽家、写真家、人形作家、デザイナーと様々な分野にわたり、アーティストと刷師のコラボレーションのもと、日々研究と試行錯誤を重ねながら、新しい版画表現とオリジナルな技術が生み出されている。
※会期中は展示のほか作品の販売も行う。

本展では岡部版画工房の協力により、工房で制作された1500種類を越える作品の中から代表作の約40点を展示、作品を通し版画工房の仕事を紹介する。

In 1964, Tokuzo Okabe found a first print studio in Japan offering silk screen printing to order.
His studio has collaborated with major domestic and international artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Nam June Paik, just to name a few.
Okabe Print Editions plays an important role in discovering new facets of artists through silk screen as a medium, and making modern art more familiar by enabling production of duplicates.
Okabe sought new possibilities in print production and developed many followers. In his later career, he was also involved in education in universities.
Even after his death in 2006, the studio continues production in the spirit of artisan.
Various artists including videomakers, musicians, photographers, doll creators, and designers frequent the studio to collaborate with printers, creating ever new expressions and original techniques.
In cooperation with Okabe Print Editions, the present exhibition introduces their workmanship through several dozen works among more than 1500 produced by the studio. Exhibited works are for sale.
