To reconsider the modern art in the midst of somewhat chaotic current Japanese art scene, some exhibitions focusing on European art are held at the museum in 2010 inviting German artists.
In this exhibition, we are speculating future of Japanese modern art through works of the most promising artist, Kazuhiro Nomura. Nomura studied at Kunstakademie Dusseldorf and continues creation of modern art.
Nomura has visualized his idea through various media such as paintings, objets and video pictures. This exhibition mainly introduces his "tableau works", which is considered to be an origin of many of his works.
Over 400 tableau works have been created since his years in Germany.
In seemingly all-white canvas, non-existent plants created from an inspiration are drawn with dots of five colors (621 of red, black, yellow, orange and green dots), of which trunk has simplified fruits of three kinds (tomato, lemon and orange) in an ordered manner.
In the plants drawn in the tableau works have elements that are unchanged and elements that are intentionally changed and make individual works different. This seems to represent actual plants having two properties: inheriting species based on genetic information; and having possibility of changing to new species. In addition, expression of difference (presence of individual) in these tableau works suggests entirety of an enormous amount of works.
